As spring comes into full bloom the IAIS likewise prepares for a busy few months ahead. The first ever IAIS Global Insurance Market Report will soon be released, giving Members, Observers and other interested parties an expanded tool for the effective supervision of the insurance industry. The IAIS Global Seminar, scheduled for 18 June in the Cayman Islands, is expected to attract scores of Members and Observers to panels on ComFrame, financial inclusion and access to inclusive insurance, and financial stability. Draft papers on ComFrame, the assessment methodology for potentially global systemically important insurers, and regulation and supervision supporting inclusive insurance markets will also hopefully soon be released for public comment. In all, it is shaping up to be a busy spring – and summer – and we look forward to working with each of you on these and other important topics.

 

Last month, we introduced a featured article in the newsletter and kicked things off with an article on the IAIS Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MMoU), which has been viewed more than 1,750 times! This month, we focus on the Joint Forum, which was founded and is currently chaired by the IAIS. As the insurance marketplace becomes more globally interconnected, focus needs to be given not only to interactions between insurance supervisors but also between financial sectors. As the meeting place for senior banking, insurance and securities supervisors, the Joint Forum provides supervisors with the means to contribute to the international regulatory agenda, in particular where risks exist across or in gaps between the three sectors.
